Toyota has expanded its LandCruiser Prado lineup by introducing a five-seat option for the popular GXL variant. This move addresses previous concerns about limited cargo space in the seven-seat configuration, offering enhanced practicality for families and adventurers alike.
Enhanced Cargo Capacity
The new five-seat GXL variant significantly boosts luggage capacity. With the removal of the third row, it offers approximately 945 liters of cargo space behind the second row and up to 1895 liters when the second row is folded down. In comparison, the seven-seat version provides 182 liters with all seats upright and 906 liters with the third row stowed.
Addressing Design Challenges
In previous models, the third-row seats did not fold flat into the floor due to the placement of the 48V battery for the mild-hybrid system, resulting in a higher load floor. Toyota mitigated this by installing a removable storage box to create a consistent load surface. The new five-seat GXL variant eliminates this issue, offering a more practical and spacious cargo area.
Consistent Performance and Features
The five-seat GXL retains the robust performance and features of its seven-seat counterpart. It is powered by a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 150kW and 500Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a full-time all-wheel-drive system. Standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 12.3-inch widescreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Pricing and Availability
While Toyota Australia has yet to announce official pricing for the five-seat GXL, it is expected to fall between the base GX at $72,500 and the seven-seat GXL at $79,990. The new variant is available for order now, with deliveries anticipated in the second half of 2025.
